Why feel bad about a debate. Just label it as a debate in the title and then everyone knows. It shouldn't be any different than a normal topic.

but then its disorganized. there's two ways to do it: have a whole bunch of topics called "DEBATE: blah blah" or w/e, or have a debate section. there's no real difference, it just makes a little more sense to have a section for it.
