I mentally began kicking myself for assuming shit that wasn’t true. I always do that. Ah, f**k me. I’m probably the worst boyfriend ever.

I clenched my teeth and heaved a sigh of frustration with myself. Well, things can only get better from here…

I walked out the door to go find Anna. She couldn’t have gotten far since I drove here. Luckily, I found her sitting on the porch steps, cradling her head in her hands.

I sat down next to her.

I didn’t quite know what to do with myself after our fight, so I just sat on the steps.

A few moments later, I heard someone come and sit next to me. I smiled to myself and reached out and hugged Pete.

“Thank God. I thought this fight was going to be like the last one. Sorry for fucking up so much,” Pete whispered in my ear.
“I don’t like fighting. And you don’t f**k up, Petey. We both f**k up a lot. A lot, a lot.”
“Yeah we do, I guess. I need to work on not assuming things and jumping to the worst conclusions. Like at Pirate’s Cove when I thought you liked Andy. And just now with Andy, too.”

“Yeah, I definitely don’t like Andy,” I laughed.
“I know that now. I guess I’m just insecure. Really insecure. I think it’s because I don’t know how a girl like you would want a guy like me,” he sighed.

“What are you talking about, Pete? Why wouldn’t I want you? I couldn’t believe you were single when I first met you.”
“I f**k up a lot. I don’t know, no one ever wants me.”
“Now, that I don’t believe.”

“What about you? Why the hell were you single when I first met you?”
“Because no one likes me,” I laughed.

“I like you,” he smiled.
“I like you, too,” I beamed. “And only you.”

He smiled, then tilted his head, going in for a kiss. I returned the smile, and closed my eyes, waiting for his lips to touch mine.

Even when we were fighting, everything was perfect.
