Our Flashback page was more popular than ever in 2006
But there could only be one Flashback of the year winner and thanks to your feedback it's Panic! At the Disco
Panic! at the Disco was started in Las Vegas when childhood friends Ryan Ross (Guitar) and Spencer Smith (Drums) got together. The two played in different bands until they recruited the final two members Brent Wilson (Bass) and Brendon Urie (Vocals and Guitar).
Through the help of modern day technology - the world wide web - the band contacted Fall Out Boy bassist Peter Wentz, who was so impressed by what he heard, he asked them to sighn with his label Decaydance.
In January 2006 the band's music video "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" made it's debut on the US MTV show TRL at number 10, which immediately started a buzz.
Their second release "But It's Better if You Do" also received a lot of airplay and soon enough they were climbing the charts all around the world.
At the 2006 MTV Music Awards thei beat music heaviweights Madonna, Christina Aguilera, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Shakira in the Video of the Year category with their single "I write Sins Not Tragedies".
The album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out showcases just what Panic! at the Disco has to offer and has sold over 1.2 million copies in the US alone.
May 2006 saw the unexpected departure of the band's bassist, Brent, and while no explanation was given at the time, media reports have suggested he was fired without notice. It's also been reported that he's now looking to receive royalties for his part in writing songs during his time with the group - although the rest of the lads dispute his claims.
Longtime friend of the band Jon Walker filled Brent's spot, initially as a temporary replacement, but he's now considered to be a fulltime member.
In late 2006 Panic! at the Disco embarked on their first worldwide tour, which included a visit to New Zealand.
Kiwi fans snapped up tickets as fast as they could and the boys played to a sell out crowd in Auckland.
